In a couple short months, the Flint Community Take-Back Organization (formerly known as the Flint Stop the Violence / Community Take-Back Organization) will hold its 4th Annual FREE event. This event promises to be epic as we continue to highlight the violence and other issues that impact our community every day. Last year hundreds took the streets during our 1000 Man March. This year we expect even more to attend. More information will follow soon and we look forward to seeing you all there!

Alana Drew, 14 (Flint, MI)
Alana Drew, daughter of Jeffrey Drew and Jennifer Bentley, has proven that there is plenty more to becoming a teenager/young adult than what society has labeled. While only being 14 years old, she has already completed many activities and achieved accomplishments in her lifetime that many of her age are still aspiring to achieve.
Alana’s contribution to our community comes in the form of her participation in activities, which include: the Mackinac Island Governor’s Honor Guard, Girl Scouts, Junior Leadership School (part of the Genesee County Young Marines). In addition to these activities, she has participated in numerous community service events which includes painting ceiling tiles for the McLaren Cancer Ward, participated in flag ceremonies, and volunteering at the Genesee County Fair, Warrior Dash, and Bikes on the Bricks. Alana has accumulated over 100 community service hours in 2014 alone.
In addition, Alana currently holds a First Aid and CPR certification through the Red Cross and has been awarded the Presidential Volunteer Award. Alana attends Genesee Early College, a college preparatory high school and has maintained a 4.0 grade point average
The date of the Flint Stop the Violence/Community Take-Back “Celebration of Life” Parade and Festival has been changed to Sunday September 14 from 2pm – 6:30pm to facilitate our Light Up The City Event the day before. Please mark your calendars accordingly. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. We thank you for your continued support!

It is always a blessing to see our community’s youth stepping up to make a difference in our community and doing things that will bring a positive spotlight to our great city. Ms. Alexis Jones of Flint, MI fits that bill. Alexis is a freelance photographer that is making waves throughout the Flint community.
When asked what drives her to contribute to the community through photography, she made the following remarks: “I want to make a change and positively impact our young people. We have so much turmoil in our city and we need more people to help change that, so I figured I would do what I love to do and make some kind of impact doing it through photography.”
She has recently embarked on a project focusing on Flint violence titled “Home of the Brave” to honor those who have lost their lives due to violence here in the City of Flint. She is asking to photograph anyone who has lost a loved one as they hold a picture of that person in remembrance. This positive pro-Flint piece will be featured in Flint MAG. We are asking that those who would like to participate, in remembrance of their loved one contact Ms. Jones for more information on the project. She can be reached via email at: email@example.com or by phone at 810.610.1598.
